Review of Arthur Sherburne Hardy's Wind of Destiny

Arthur Sherburne Hardy (1847-1930) was Professor of Mathematics at Dartmouth, as well as a novelist, poet, and diplomat, serving as Minister Resident/Consul General to Persia (1897), Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Greece, Romania and Serbia (1899), Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Switzerland (1900), and Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Spain (1902). A prolific novelist, he also published nonfiction on a wide variety of subjects -- calculus, geometry, and topography.

Born in Andover, Massachusetts, he graduated from Amherst College in 1868, and thus may have had some contact with the Dickinsons during his time in Amherst. The novel Susan reviews here, The Wind of Destiny, was published in 1886 by Houghton, Mifflin and Company and The Riverside Press, Cambridge.
